Akki kadle bele payasa
On special occasions, we wish to celebrate by having a delicious sweet. And if it is home-made and like mother's recipe, who wouldnt relish it! Akki kadle bele payasa (Rice-chana dal kheer) is one of those many recipes that I love when my mom makes it. It has a typical taste. I have got the recipe from her and here is how it is to be made!
Ingredients:
1 cup Cooked rice
1/2 cup Chana dal
2 tea spoons poppy seeds
1 cup grated coconut
1 cup jaggery
2 cardamom
4-5 strands of saffron
3 glasses milk
Chopped dry fruits for garnishing.
Procedure
In a vessel, add chana dal and water and allow it to cook. When it is almost cooked, add cooked rice to this and let it cook together for the next 2-3 minutes.
Grind the coconut, jaggery, poppy seeds, cardamom together after adding little water. Make a fine paste of this mixture. Add this paste to the chana dal and rice mixture. Add some milk and allow it to cook for about 2-3 minutes. Stir it well so that it doesnt get burnt.
Now add the saffron. After about 2 minutes, turn off the stove. Akki kadle bele payasa is ready.
Garnish it with roasted and finely chopped dry fruits(almonds, cashew, raisins). Serve it hot.
